Months before their shock split, Lucy Beaumont made a joke about divorcing Jon Richardson while on the telly.
The pair of comedians announced last April that they were divorcing after nine years of marriage. Sharing a daughter together, the celebrity couple said at the time they had ‘we have jointly and amicably made the difficult decision’.
But while they made have made an ‘agreement’ for their separation to not discuss their marriage or each other, that wasn’t necessarily the case while they were married.

Back in 2023, an episode of Eight Out of Ten Cats Does Countdown aired with both Richardson and Beaumont appearing.
And while it may have been filmed long before it was shown on Channel 4, and therefore much longer before they decided to split, it seems a little bit awkward now.
During the episode, Jimmy Carr introduced Richardson as one of the team captains, with Beaumont on his side.
The host said: “Lucy and Jon are married. So, I know Lucy, everyone watching at home is dying to know... What made you decide to settle?"

And she joked in response: “I don't see this for life. Isn't it a song - just passing through? Is it?"
Yep, a little awkward, right?
But Carr continued to stir the pot: "Just passing through?"
She continued: "You meet in your life old souls, new souls... A***holes."
Beaumont did go on to say that the two 'had a lovely life together', also joking that she had never eaten an avocado before meeting her husband at the time.

She then said: "Who knows what will happen in the future." And Richardson joined in with the joke as he asked: “Are you breaking up now?"

Their split announcement followed in the months after it aired as the pair said in a statement on 12 April 2024: “After nine years of marriage, we would like to announce that we have separated. We have jointly and amicably made the difficult decision to divorce and go our separate ways.
"As our only priority is managing this difficult transition for our daughter, we would ask that our privacy is respected at this sensitive time to protect her well-being. We will be making no further comment."

Keeping things relatively private is something the comedians have stuck too, with discussing their relationship and split being pretty much a no-go area.
This is down to the agreement they made, as Beaumont acknowledged to OK! Magazine that it might seem odd to their fans.
“People might think I should talk about it because we were so public and everyone knew us as a couple, but I won’t, and not because there’s any animosity,” the Taskmaster star said.
“We both agreed that while it might be weird for other people not hearing anything about it, we wouldn’t talk about anything to do with the marriage or each other.”
