Slept through the entire weekend? Don’t even worry about it! We’ve got all the juiciest Irish entertainment gossip, from dodgy sound issues at the Late Late Eurosong to the unexpected return of Love/Hate. Let’s get into it!
Late Late Eurosong: Sound Issues, Soviet Space Dogs, and a Sparkly Bum!
So, the Late Late Eurosong took place on Friday evening. As we all sat down to listen to our Irish hopefuls, it became apparent almost immediately that something was wrong. The sound quality was about as good as two yoghurt cups attached together with a piece of string! At one point, things were so bad that Bambi Thug (a panellist) had to assure viewers at home that things sounded better in the studio! God forbid, RTÉ spend a few extra bucks on making sure the sound quality was at least passable!

Sound aside, the rather catchy Laika Party stole the show. This dance pop number about an alternate reality where a Soviet Union pooch survives space travel (no, really) is like an ear worm that gets into your head. Here’s hoping singer Emmy and team can do the business later this year. If not, maybe next year we’ll just send Patrick with his ‘Drundum Bum Bum’ banger! No qualifier required, just send him straight through!

Love/Hate is Making a Comeback—And Apparently, So is Nidge!
Hold onto your remote controls, folks! Love/Hate actor John Connors has dropped a bombshell: the series is making a comeback! After a decade-long hiatus, the gritty series that had us all glued to our screens is set to return, and guess what? Nidge isn't pushing up daisies after all!

During a chat on Virgin Media's The Six O'Clock Show, Connors, who portrayed the notorious Patrick Ward, couldn't contain his excitement. He revealed that the show is gearing up for production later this year and is slated to hit our screens next year.
Connors went on to clarify that the revival isn't an RTÉ project but is being spearheaded by Netflix. He suggested that the streaming giant is breathing new life into the beloved series. And for those of us still mourning Nidge's dramatic exit, Connors dropped another bomb: "Nidge is still alive, but that's all I can say on Nidge."
So, is this the comeback we've all been waiting for, or just another tease? Only time will tell. In the meantime, it might be wise to keep an eye on Netflix announcements and perhaps rewatch the original series to refresh your memory. After all, in the world of Love/Hate, anything can happen! Coola Boola!

Alisha Weir and Kneecap Snubbed at Critics' Choice Awards
In a shocking turn of events that has left Ireland collectively tutting in disapproval, Alisha Weir and Kneecap walked away from the 2025 Critics' Choice Awards without a single trophy. That’s right—no speeches, no awkwardly fumbling with an award on stage, and no smug post-win selfies. A tragedy, really.

Alisha Weir, the Dublin-born star who first dazzled us in Roald Dahl’s Matilda the Musical, was up for Best Young Actor/Actress for her spine-chilling role in Abigail. But instead of adding another accolade to her collection, the award went to Maisy Stella for My Old Ass. No hard feelings, but if the Critics’ Choice panel wake up with mysterious bite marks on their necks, we’ll know what happened.
Meanwhile, Belfast’s most rebellious rap trio, Kneecap, had their biopic in the running for Best Foreign Language Film, but the award was snatched by Emilia Pérez. Maybe the critics weren’t quite ready for a film featuring hard-hitting Irish-language rhymes, or maybe they just don’t appreciate the art of mixing politics, beats, and absolute chaos. Their loss, really.
Despite the snubs, neither Alisha nor Kneecap seem to give a focal—after all, they’ve got plenty of time to collect awards with bright futures ahead of all of them. Who knows, maybe next year they could all team up and make an Irish rap musical about vampire ballerinas! Watch out Hollywood…Ireland is taking over!
