It seems the mad world of Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga has exploded out from the big screen and onto the streets of London.
Warner Bros. has taken over a gigantic brick wall in Spitalfields, splashing it with bright licks of colour to create a showstopping mural highlighting the upcoming Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga movie, set to release in UK cinemas on May 24.
Just off Brick Lane, the bespoke art piece, created in partnership with street art company MurWalls, displays some of the epic and unique visuals you can expect in the film on a 20-metre-long 6-metre-high wall, making it the perfect photo op for Max Max fans to snap a picture with.
The mural depicts biker warlord Dementus (Chris Hemsworth, widely known for his role as Thor in the MCU) and Imperator Furiosa (Anya Taylor-Joy, famed for her role in Netflix series The Queen’s Gambit) head-to-head in the ultimate faceoff with graffiti-style skulls drawn over creating a striking contour.
The movie comes from Australian filmmaker and Mad Max mastermind George Miller, who created the dystopian franchise over 30 years ago. After helming all previous films, he’s returned to the Wasteland to tell Furiosa’s tale.
Set 15 years before Mad Max: Fury Road (the last instalment of the franchise), Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga sees a young Furiosa snatched from the Green Place of Many Mothers and have her world turned upside down at the hands of a great Biker Horde led by the despicable Dementus. While out trekking across the Wasteland, they come across the Citadel presided over by The Immortan Joe (Lachy Hulme; Beaconsfield, The Secret River). While the pair of tyrants battle for dominance, Furiosa must use all her bravery, tenacity and skill to gather what’s needed to find her way home. Expect epic explosions, furious wasteland fights and shocking stunts from this cinematic masterpiece.
Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga continues to push the boundaries of cinema in the way that only Mad Max films do, with one impressive action-filled scene taking a whopping 200 stunt workers and 78 days to perfect. Another scene required 4,000 custom made motorbikes for that ultimate Wasteland feel.
Not only that, Anya Taylor-Joy, who had never driven a car before, had to take a crash course in driving to master a 180 handbrake turn to secure her role in the film.
