New update on GTA 6 issued by Rockstar’s parent company Take-Two

Rockstar's parent company has issued a fresh update to GTA fans over its release date

Following today's meeting with Rockstar's parenting company, Take-Two, there have been a number of updates on the highly anticipated game that is Grand Theft Auto VI.

GTA 6 was first announced back in December 2023, to the reactions of millions of frenzied fans across social media, who were just happy they were given a release date for the video game, which has been 11 years in the making.

The ninety-second trailer hinted at a few potential features, such as in-game social media being introduced, 24/7 news channels, police body cam footage and more.

At the end of it all, it simply read: 'Grand Theft Auto VI, coming 2025'.

Now, according to documents published ahead of an earnings call with Take-Two, Rockstar's parent company confirmed that GTA 6 is still on track for a release date in Autumn 2025.

A release read: "With many exciting new titles coming in fiscal 2026 - including GTA 6 in the Fall, Borderlands 4 and Mafia: The Old Country - we expect to create long-term value for our shareholders."

Fiscal 2026 refers to the financial year that starts in April 2025 and ends in March 2026.

It looks like the game is on course for a similar release date to its predecessor, which came out on 17 September, 2013.

It's the first major update on the game since the trailer was released, which was said to be rushed after footage of the game was leaked on social media in the days before.

The news comes after a 365-day window was given at the end of the trailer, which was enough for Rockstar fans, with lead characters Lucia and Jason set to have a Bonnie and Clyde-inspired relationship intertwined with crime and love.

The former will become the first female lead in the franchise, with the sixth game of the series also heading back to Vice City, inspired by Miami, for the first time since 2002.

Despite a former Rockstar employee hinting towards a potential 2026 release due to delays on past games, fans have stayed hopeful.

PC users will be made to wait regardless though, as it was announced by Rockstar themselves that the game will be made available to PlayStation and Xbox users by 2025, with no mention of those on computers.

A 'leaked' date of 27 October 2025 made its way across the internet after appearing on IMDb recently as well, though this should be taken with a pinch of salt, despite Rockstar's parent company's good performance.
