Rock fans have been left in disbelief after discovering that MGMT's band name hasn't always been 'MGMT'.
Andrew VanWyngarden and Ben Goldwasser formed the Connecticut band in 2002 and the rest was pretty much history.
Their 2007 debut album Oracular Spectacular featured monster hits such as 'Kids' and 'Electric Feel', earning them future Grammy nominations, along with a fanbase of millions.

Not to mention both tracks being two of the most iconic FIFA songs of all time.
However, many years after the release of that song, fans are only just realising that MGMT was once an abbreviation.
Content creator Ryan O'Malley (@o_malley) recently shared a TikTok showing the music group performing at Wesleyan College in Georgia back in 2003.

The guitarist said: "We are the management," which made everyone release that they'd been saying their name wrong, sort of.
"The management, I've been calling them 'MGMT' my whole life, their name is 'The Management?'" a bemused O'Malley said.
In the comments section, another viewer admitted: "I called them Management when I first heard of them until I heard people call them MGMT and I was so embarrassed. My pretentious 20 year old self would be so smug right now."

"I work in HR. I’ve called them Management for years as a joke. Joke’s on me, I guess?" a second penned.
As a third confessed: "I saw a sign in a bathroom once that said, 'Please don't flush feminine products down the toilet. Thank you -MGMT'. And that's when it hit me."
"MGMT is short form for management... even before the band, pretty common knowledge," someone else said.
While a fifth revealed the real reason: "That’s from when they first started. They changed it to MGMT because there was already a band called The Management. It’s 100 percent pronounced 'MGMT' now."

MGMT's name explained
So, before they signed a record label, the band formed under the name 'The Management' and after the release of two demo albums, they were forced to change it because the name was already being used by another band.

O'Malley also went on to question: "Is AC/DC the aqueduct, what the f**k?"
Interestingly, the electricity bolt in AC/DC's logo gives a big clue into the abbreviation.
The AC means alternating current and the DC means direct current. This comes after the band's name was created in 1973 when Angus and Malcolm Young were shown the 'AC/DC' symbol on the adapter for their sister Margaret's sewing machine.
Since they wanted to put some energy and power into their performance the name AC/DC seemed to fit.
