Selena Gomez reveals she thought about suicide for years after battling psychosis

Selena Gomez might be a world-famous name, but that doesn't mean that her glitzy life in Hollywood has always been smooth sailing.

The triple-threat Hollywood starlet revealed in a recent interview with Rolling Stone the true depth of her personal struggles, from suffering with bipolar disorder to suicidal thoughts.

"I thought the world would be better if I wasn't there," she told the magazine.

"I'm going to be very open with everybody about this: I've been to four treatment centres,' she told the publication."

Gomez went on to reveal that her life turned into a rollercoaster of dizzying highs and staggering lows that could go for weeks or months.

She told the magazine that she would get overexcited and do intense things like buy everyone she knew a new car.

Such erratic decisions can be a common symptom of mania and bipolar.

"I have a gift and I wanted to share it with people," she revealed of her thought process at the time.

The lows, however, would 'start with depression, then it would go into isolation'

"Then it just was me not being able to move from my bed. I didn't want anyone to talk to me. My friends would bring me food because they love me, but none of us knew what it was," she revealed to Rolling Stone.

"Sometimes it was weeks I'd be in bed, to where even walking downstairs would get me out of breath."

Gomez's Apple TV+ documentary My Mind and Me is out on November 4.
