Last summer saw the final episode aired of the smash hit Channel 4 comedy show Derry Girls written by the Irish screenwriter and playwright Lisa McGee. The show was a roaring success and now Channel 4 have announced a new show written by the Derry native called How To Get To Heaven From Belfast.
The new eight-part comedy series will follow childhood friends Saoirse, Robyn and Dara, now in their 30s and leading very different lives. Together, the three friends get embroiled in a mystery after attending the wake of a former classmate.
The show follows their adventure as they leave their native city of Belfast, "a city full of ghosts” into rural Donegal, where they hope to put the pieces of the puzzle together and uncover the truth.

Clearly, the series sounds absolutely intriguing and we cannot wait for it to hit our screens. If Derry Girls is anything to go by, Lisa McGee is about to serve us another hilarious treat.
The Northern Ireland-based show was critically acclaimed and won several awards including a BAFTA along with a personal award for Lisa McGee for best comedy writing on television at the British Screenwriters' Awards in 2018. In fact, Derry Girls was Channel 4’s most successful comedy show since Father Ted.
Speaking about the new show, McGee said “I feel so incredibly lucky to be making another show for the phenomenal Channel 4 and to be doing it with Hat Trick Productions again and the creative team behind Derry Girls, the mighty Liz Lewin and Caroline Leddy, is just a dream.

I've wanted to make a comedy thriller set in Northern Ireland for SUCH a long time. I cannot wait to share these flawed funny women with everyone.”
Meanwhile, the head of comedy at Channel 4, Charlie Perkins, said “This is huge. We couldn’t be prouder that Channel 4 feels like this extraordinary show’s spiritual home.”
He added, “We can’t wait to bring Lisa’s next world to life for all those who already love her work and many more to come.”
