For many people, a cruise is the ideal holiday. With endless on-board activities to all-inclusive food and drinks, what more could you ask for?
Some people love cruising so much that they even buy flats on ships.
A look into what being onboard at night is like, however, might end up putting you off going on one for life.
TikTok creator @yourstrulychelsea shares cruise content with her 35,000 followers on the social media site.

Now, she has shown the terrifying reality in a video captioned "POV: A cruise ship at night in the middle of the ocean," that has been viewed more than 470,000 times.
In the short clip, she pans the camera around a dimly lit deck before walking across to the railing.
Beyond the railing, it is pitch black, leaving it to your imagination what horrors could be lurking beneath the waves.

The eerie video left TikTok users unnerved, with one commenting: "I got scared cus I'm looking over and I'm thinking 'someone can literally throw me over and no one will notice.'"
Another wrote: "I love cruising but it's really eerie out there at night when there's no moonlight."
And a third said: "Imagine the people who are lost at sea and survive just floating in the darkness throughout the night."
One user, however, admitted they love walking around the ship at night because 'sometimes you hear things in the water.' Erm, I'll pass on joining you for that one, thanks.
And, Chelsea isn't the only TikToker showing off the dark reality (pun intended) of nighttime out at sea.

In a video by user @chasingthedream.hj, he starts by saying: "Cruises are great until you realise how dark the ocean gets at night."
He explains: "Unless you've been on a cruise ship, you're not going to understand how dark it gets at night.
"There's nothing to see if you look overboard at night because it's absolutely pitch black," and goes on to describe it as 'the blackest black you'll ever see'.
He then shows viewers what he can see overboard and lo and behold, it's a dark abyss that'd leave even the most self-assured of us with nightmares.

But, if that's not enough to put you off booking a trip on ocean liner for your summer holidays, maybe don't go too close to the railings unless you want to learn what's really out there...
