Zac Efron has sparked excitement from Disney fans after saying he hopes a High School Musical debut happens with the original cast.
Ever since the third and final film in the trilogy dropped in 2008, fans have been wondering whether the franchise will ever make a return.
The 34-year-old actor rose to fame for his leading role as Troy Bolton in the films alongside his co-star Vanessa Hudgens, who portrayed Gabriella Montez.

However, he’s since reinvented himself by taking on a more diverse array of projects, playing everything from Phillip Carlyle in The Greatest Showman to Ted Bundy in Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile.
The question on every High School Musical fan’s lips is - would he ever want to return to the franchise for a fourth round?
Now we no longer have to wonder, as he was asked just this in a recent Q&A with E! News.

"Would Zac Efron be interested in a High School Musical reboot?" reads text over to the screen.
Without hesitation, he responds: "Of course. Seriously, having the opportunity in any form to go back and work with that team would be so amazing.
“Yeah, my heart's still there so that would be incredible, I hope it happens.”
For those not well versed in the HSM world, the original film is described as a modern day Romeo & Juliet, following two high school students who are poles apart as they audition for - you guessed it - their school's musical.

Unsurprisingly fans were delighted at the latest news, not least because Zac’s avoided the topic in recent years.
It’s been so many years since the last film dropped, most had given up all hope that it could ever return with the original cast members.
But this latest interview has given new hope, with one writing on Instagram, “So this needs to happen as in like TOMORROW, LATEST!”
“That would be so incredible if they can do another HSM again! Make it happen please!” said another.

A third added: “Once a Wildcat, Always a Wildcat!!! High School Musical Forever!!!”
As for whether this does actually come into fruition is yet to be seen, but the jury’s out on whether Vanessa would reprise her role too.
Back in 2017, she told E! News: "I mean, I'm 28. I could be a teacher, but I refuse to be a teacher! I'm still a teenager at heart.

“So probably not with me, but I'm excited to see what they whip together."
Still, maybe if she hears Zac’s up for it she might be on board? The fans can only hope.
